The Story Behind the Piece
Sunlight warms Petit Plage in Grand Case gentle pastels as we spent one evening waiting for the sun to set and our fellow beachgoers go off to dinner. Blue and aqua mix into a shallow, clear sea; warm brown and pale yellow suggest the sand’s gentle slope. A low, calm horizon and thin clouds let the paper’s white shine through. The painting conveys the immediate and meditative way we felt: a graceful, impressionistic glimpse of the light, waves, and the slow pace of a Saint Martin evening.
